Resurgent Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent rescued four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
